Weekend progress

Tiny bit of hobby progress this weekend after the timely arrival of a bitz order from Ebay.

Not much to look at here, but I have a few more warband members for my upcoming SW:A game.  Now I just need to paint the lot of them, and survive this upcoming very busy week.

Star Wars: The Visual Encylopedia

As long time readers of this blog probably already know, I tend to get every Star Wars book that the local library gets.

The latest I have read is Star Wars: the Visual Encyclopedia (2017) This is a newer version of what is now a series of books (mostly labeled visual Dictionary).  It appears to be complete as of its publication date, and as such has material from the third season of Rebels and from Rogue One.  Content (other than the pictures) is rather slight, and many of the pictures are very small as there are so many per page.  For instance, I have wanted to see the frieze from Chancellor Palpatine's office in detail for a while, but in this book it was only about 1 inch by 4 inches high!  Even with high resolution printing, that did not help much.

An interesting part of the book for me is how much material comes from the two cartoons, and further how very good it looks in the book.  It makes me suspect that the Clone Wars tv show in particular is actually much higher visual quality than it appears on TV, making me wonder about DVD or other ways of watching it where the sharpness of the images come through.

A few useful pictures (which are probably worth viewing full size)

Inq28 - Additional Figures

Somewhat foolishly, many of the figures I add to my Inquisitor 28 project are fairly random, that is they do not have a defined purpose, or fill a slot in a warband.  This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does prevent me from completing the project...  Anyway here are some of the more recently completed figures.

The Gunslinger
A man of taste, and also quick with his hands, the gunslinger is fond of challenging people who make fun of his ratty wig, and of course he always wins.

The Rooftop man
A minor conversion of a Reaper figure, this (unfortunately hard to photograph) figure is amply armed with this unusual power weapon.

Swordsman
A doleful figure, the swordsman eschews ranged weapons, perhaps to his detriment. A veteran sergeant of some unknown regiment, he longs for an honorable death.

The Skinner
A figure I had long wanted to make, based on Damon Prytanis, at least in the sense that he is armed with two pistols and a black fur vest. The skinning knife was an accidental find in my bits, and I believe originally comes from a kroot rifle.

"Steel Wolf"
A flamboyant mercenary (or pirate?) "Steel Wolf" is a bit overly proud of himself, as one might guess from his brightly colored chain sword and topknot. He really does not like it when people call him short.

Vindicare
If you see him, you are already dead... but you will never see him. (This one is sort of a cheat as the figure comes from waaaaaay back in the year 2000 or so, and was merely touched up and based recently)

Inq28 - Castellans

These figures are Inquisitorial Castellans, soldiers who are assigned to protect the local Inquisitorial Chapter house. Ranging in number from ten to thousands, they are heavily armed, very loyal, but not necessarily well trained.  Very occasionally they are loaned out by the Lord Inquisitor to assist other inquisitors with tasks, typically involving the censure of other Inquisitors.

Built from the current Empire handgun/crossbow troops, I thought that the pose suited pavises, and armed them with a bolter arquebus, which I imagine to hit as hard as a bolter pistol, but at longer range.

The corporal  of the group has an actual bolter pistol of an archaic pattern.

More Inq28 to come in the next post.

Fantasy Figures

As seen in my last post (was it really two weeks ago?), some miniatures I have painted recently.

Usual excuses about photography with a cell phone, and lighting.  I may eventually get around to taking better pictures, but given my track record on that regard, I would not hold your breath.

The two enigmatic large bases need a bit more work before I show them off with their proper occupants.  I have enough figures to show off that I will break them up into a few posts.

First off fantasy.

Leading the charge is this Night goblin on a wolf, which I converted back in August after being inspired by Sebastian's work over at Eastern Empire. (Inspired should here read "nearly directly ripped off")

Next up are these Reaper peasants, although really only the one could be a peasant, while the others are clearly city dwellers.
These may need another application of matte spray

And finally we have a chaos standing stone made from the one grasped by the plastic giant. I carved away the excess material (a giant hand) and ended up with this stone.  Seems like it needs something else though... spent candles, and some blood maybe?

Tomorrow I have some various Inq28 figures to put up, and then we will have another wait until I actually get something painted. (I did assemble and prime a troupe of Harlequins, so there is material forthcoming eventually!)
