GeG Swap meet II

The FLGS had another Swap Meet on Sunday, which was also proximate to the Kid's birthday.  This is the third time I have been to one of these now, and honestly this was probably less exciting than the other two times.  The fire marshal had apparently complained about crowding, so they only let 50 people in the room at a time, and there were a lot fewer miniature tables there, and more board game tables, and nerd adjacent tables like 3d printed stuff or anime which were less exciting to me.  (I did sort of kick myself later for passing on a new in shrink copy of Star Wars Outer Rim and its expansion for $50, which is more than 60% off).  For those of you who are not local, the store has an enormous space that they use for game play, which is wholly converted for this sale. There are probably 20 tables each with 1-2 vendors, so plenty of things to look at even when some of them are tables of things I am less interested in.

So what did we get?

Bastion, three mechs, four Armigers, and 22 Neuroguants

I got three BattleTech mechs for $5 each, which was pretty decent, particularly as these were mechs that I have not had luck finding STLs for. The guy had three big tubs of mechs, including the quaint old Alpha strike mechs that I should have paid more attention to.

The kid got a Games Workshop Bastion kit, four armigers (small robotic knights), and 22 Neuroguants. The bastion has been out of print for a while, and should be a useful piece of terrain for 40k or Necromunda. The 'guants were the real find though, since all of them were $10 new on sprue, and 11 of them sell for $43 new in box... GW prices can be pretty nuts.

Anyway, some enjoyable time with the kid, and it only cost me $15, so that is a win even if I did not come out as well as I had hoped.

Necromunda Inside

Last month I mentioned that the Kid got a big box of Boarding Action terrain from Santa.  Well, that got snipped out in a hurry, and we decided to play a quick game of "inside" Necromunda using the Zone Mortalis rules.  We used my Escher gang and the kid took a Goliath gang which had just been built.

Setting off the Smoke Alarm

As one might expect the tight quarters were deadly, and the muscle bound Goliaths do really well when no one can draw a line of sight to them!  Correspondingly everyone who could was throwing down smoke grenades.  I did manage to shoot the Stimmer (a mountain of muscle with two heavy close combat weapons) in the head with a krak grenade, so that was a nice way to end that threat.

We liked the way the game played out, but thought that many there was not enough of the terrain to make a full table.  I started printing a few add-ons (ruined walls, upper levels and the like) and we also invested in another six sprues from Ebay, so I guess we are doing more of this...

Holidaze 2026

Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to you my dear reader(s)!

Hopefully you are well and are well done with 2025.

Did you get what you wanted from Santa?

As for myself, I got a few things hobby related, which was quite nice.

Air brush primers and thinner, Mimics, Necromunda Van Saars, and late Hundred Years war knights

Over New Years Eve and the surrounding days, I played a game of Root, Finished the D&D campaign with the kiddos (hopefully more on that later) and played a quick game of Necromunda with the kid.

The Kid BTW made out very well, and got a box of Boarding Action Terrain, a Goliath Gang, the book for said gang, a Risk card game, and a few other things.  Oh, and I got him a print of Mordheim and some witch hunters, so THAT is happening in 2026.

Last year I had planned to work more on Eldar and work on WWII Normandy, neither of which really happened.  I have quite a lot of Eldar built though, so I should get to painting... maybe the new Corsair releases will encourage me?  I did nearly build up the Kill Team: Farstalker Kinband, which was a lovely experience, lots of pieces that go together well and result in some great poses... that I have to paint.  Fortunately I have a contrast paint based plan for that.

What about you?  What are you working on in 2026?
