Long Awaited Landsknechts

Warlord finally released their plastic landsknechts, over two and a half years after they were sculpted for Pro Gloria.  After Pro Gloria sold out to Warlord, the kit seemed to languish in development, until today!

Originally the Pro Gloria release was going to have 24 figures, with 20 regular pikemen/spearmen/halberds and four command, but it appears that when Warlord reworked the figures, they increased the total number to 30, while altering the options to allow you to build either entirely pike or a few Arquebusiers (and reducing the number of heads available as well)

These seem to be well suited for their intended purpose, and would also go nicely in an old school Warhammer Fantasy Battle Empire army, which is where any I bought would end up.  Unfortunately with the demise of WHFB, sort of a low priority for me (and I have half a dozen regiments to paint first anyway) but something I will certainly keep an eye on.

Pro Gloria

As you might recall, Pro Gloria was running an Indiegogo campaign to get a plastic Landsknecht regiment box produced.  There was some sort of stall in the campaign, and rumors of a big announcement, and now it appears that Pro Gloria has been sold to Warlord Games.   Apparently Stephen Huber (the former owner of Pro Gloria) will remain connected to the project in some lesser way, which is good, since he seems to have a passion for the project.

This seems to guarantee that the figures will be produced, which is good, but probably at best annoying to those funding the Indiegogo.  This also means that Warlord is up to something like 15 different sculpting styles for their various lines, which is a bit odd.(although probably there is not that much interest in kit-bashing landsknecht bodies with roman legionary heads and soviet infantry arms, although now that I say it that way it does sound interesting)

As another plus, this should make the existing metal figures cheaper for me to get here in the US...

Warlord Games Sprue Sale

In the recent Warlord Games newsletter, there was a small item about all individual sprues being 50% off.  Naturally I had a look, and indeed, you can get the various reinforcement sprues for very cheaply, making the price of individual figures less than a dollar each.  The Bolt Action range of weapon sprues are as cheap as $2, which seems like it would be worth it even for a single gun per sprue, at least in comparison to usual GW bitz prices.

Worth $0.82 per figure?
I also noticed that they sell Renedra 25mm round bases, which I have had some interest in recently, after seeing them magnetized by Dave King. I resisted putting together an order this time (having recently been on an Ebay binge), but there certainly are some great deals to be had if you need a few figures to round out a regiment, convert, or to use in skirmish games.
